Organized by the NGO Bitcoin Argentina, a “bitcoin torch” (BTC) is being passed between various participants through the Lightning network. This is part of a series of activities planned by the organization to celebrate its tenth anniversary.
The bitcoin torch (also called the “lightning torch”) consists of the transfer of satoshis (the smallest unit of BTC) from one user to another through the Lightning network. Each participant must add 10 satoshis to the torch before passing it on. This is a way to demonstrate the speed and efficiency of transactions in this network specialized in fast and cheap payments. In addition, it strengthens the ties of the community.
Since May 19 this torch has been circulating and the participants who pass the post, make it public through the social network Twitter. CriptoNoticias joined this “chain of satoshis”:
The torch run will end on Saturday, June 10. That day, at the Campo Argentino de Polo, located in the City of Buenos Aires, the concurrence of thousands of people is expected to form a giant human “₿” that will be visible from the sky. Admission to the event, which will begin at 4:00 p.m., is free and open to all, with prior registration. In case of rain, the event will be postponed to June 24.
