Over the past few years, the world of cryptocurrency has been subjected to as much scrutiny and volatility as it has been innovation and growth.
An important component of the industry’s resilience has been the community that supports the technology and its usefulness in transforming digital finance.. One of the most prominent cryptocurrency communities in the sector is that of Bitcoin (BTC), with millions of users in groups from Reddit and conferences around the world.
At the Bitcoin Prague 2023 conference, Students for Liberty CEO Wolf Von Laer spoke to Cointelegraph about the nature of the Bitcoin community and how there is a place for everyone.
Von Laer says that the Bitcoin community might not be “so welcoming” as people at events can often seem too technical or even “hardcore.”
“I’ve seen people walk away and say, oh, this doesn’t look like my tribe.”
“We have to be more self-reflective and mature,” he said. “If someone wants to create a community, we have to be careful and ask ourselves do we know people who know about Bitcoin? Can you explain bitcoin well?”
Instead, von Laer emphasized that everyone has the ability to contribute to the ecosystem, and that the “openness of the network” is reflected in the opportunities people have to join it.
“It’s wonderful to realize how everyone can create value within the Bitcoin ecosystem. Anyone can make a contribution.”
Other members of the broader cryptocurrency industry have also spoken about the importance of community within the space, especially during times of volatility or uncertainty.
Recently, Binance’s new vice president of marketing spoke to Cointelegraph saying that cryptocurrencies need to “double down” community support.
During the celebration of its fifth anniversary, the team behind the EOS network took advantage of the moment to Also highlight the importance of your community in light of its recent challenges.
