Key facts:
-
Previous transactions that were not supported until now will be indexed, but in a special way.
-
More functionality is also gradually being added to the protocol.
Version 0.6.0 of the Ordinals protocol is now available for download, developers have announced. This update includes support for inscriptions not supported so far, called “cursed inscriptions” (its literal translation into Spanish would be “cursed inscriptions”).
Who announced the new version of Ordinals were the developers known on Twitter as raphjaph and ordinally. The first of them commented that, in this new iteration, Ordinals is able to recognize more transactions and it will allow the use of credentials like username and password for login. For his part, ordinarily he claimed that the update “facilitates protocol innovation without compromising backwards compatibility.”
The cursed inscriptions they refer to entries (ie data records in the Bitcoin ledger) that become retroactively supported by the protocol. For example, if an entry created in March was not supported in the protocol until April, it is added as completed registration at that moment. This “label” implies that it bears “a negative registration number so as not to alter the numbering of existing registrations”, described Casey Rodarmor, creator of the Ordinals protocol, in April.
“The cursed inscriptions are our solution to a critical challenge in protocol development: enabling extensions without changing existing registration numbers. They are the cornerstone of the arch that supports growth and expansion without compromising stability,” she ordinally explained in her Twitter thread.
In addition, the developer detailed that in this initial release support was introduced for only some types of enrollments. This “gradual approach,” he says, will allow for steady progress and give the ecosystem time to adapt and grow.
Other news in the latest version of Ordinals
Apart from those mentioned, the most recent update of the Ordinals protocol introduces new functionalities. For example, the index of the official site will be renewed ordinals.com. The change will be applied in hours after the time of writing this note, according to the aforementioned developers.
On the other hand, login using RPC credentials, i.e. username and password, will also be enabled in the protocol. Until now, to log in to sites linked to the Ordinals protocol (markets or browsers, for example) you had to connect a compatible wallet, such as Unisat or others that we have discussed in previous CriptoNoticias publications.
